Print Your Photos
I want to talk about not only what to do with your boudoir photos after your session, but also why I think it's important for you to display them. And yes: ‘display,’ as in hanging them on your wall.
Speaking from my experience, when I got my digital files delivered to me I kept going back and forth, back and forth for months on trying to decide whether or not to make a small album or choose a handful to print. I finally decided on doing prints, and I am so thrilled that I did. First, I love that they are displayed in our bedroom for us to see every day just like any other image and that it's not hidden away, tucked in a drawer for me to forget about the empowering experience that I "once upon a time" did. Please take note that this is all my opinion and ultimately the decision is yours in the end. You do you girl!
Why do we print photos? Why do we hang them in our homes? On our fridge? Our bathroom mirrors? Why do we buy beautiful, expensive frames for them? Choose carefully where they are placed in our living spaces? We print photos so we can tangibly feel, go back and experience that memory multiple times over and over every single day. Why? Because it makes us feel good. They make us smile, laugh, feel strong, inspire us, encourage us, fill our hearts with joy, take us back to a memory we could never replicate, the list of good things goes on. So, my question then is, why can't the same be done for boudoir photos? If we are already doing something so bad-ass, inspiring, and empowering why would we want to hide them, keep them in a folder on a hard drive, tucked away in a album asking for dust to layer on top of it or better yet be forgotten?! I mean, I get it, it's personal, it's for a special someone, it's intimate, etc. All of those things are 100% true and by all means, if that suits you there is absolutely nothing wrong with that decision! I just don't want us, women, to be afraid of our bodies. And I don't want us to think we have to hide. Anymore.
I ask myself another question. Think about the qualities of the memories or characteristics of people we have hanging in our homes. People we admire, look up to, love unconditionally, who have been there for us, who have empowered us, molded us into the creatures we are today... I mean essentially all of the good things right!? Now let's think about what those photos are of. Most often they are of smiling faces, your wedding, cute pics of your pup, that memory you climbed the tallest mountain (maybe I am just speaking for myself here, but it's true). How many of your photos have actual bodies in them? Or better yet, of just YOU. Probably not that much right? I'm convinced society has quietly convinced us, women, that that is just "too selfish of a thing for us to do" for us to embrace our bodies and think we’re bad ass, but that's a blog for another day. Now... let's connect the dots. If this boudoir experience is one that is empowering, something you admired about yourself for breaking the mold, a time you demonstrated strength, you took a risk, you finally believed in yourself, all the amazing things that make a boudoir session powerful then why the heck not would you want to hang a photo of that experience in your home? Easy answer. You hang the damn photo.
